Choose permeable driveway materials

Permeable surfaces reduce runoff, help recharge aquifers.
Once compacted, conventional gravel driveways are only marginally more permeable to water than asphalt. A porous pavingA paving material that allows rainfall to percolate through and infiltrate the ground, rather than contributing to stormwater runoff; can be asphalt, concrete, or porous grid paver. grid supports vehicles and prevents the gravel from compacting, much like turf-paving systems. Some gravel-paving products are made from recycled plastic. Precautions should be taken so runoff doesn't wash silt onto the gravel and clog the surface. Turf-paving systems, which consist of a plastic or concrete matrix and spaces for grass to grow, is a good choice for low-traffic parking areas.
