Protecto Wrap, manufacturer of peel-and-stick flexible flashing products, offers Triple Guard, a T-shaped sill seal made from closed-cell polyethylene foam. Irregular concrete foundations form gaps that are difficult to seal using conventional 1/4" thick foam seals. Triple Guard uses a thicker 3/8" foam bonded to a layer of 20-mil peel-and-stick rubberized asphalt to form a gasket that adheres to the top of the concrete foundation. The bottom half of the sill seal’s T-shaped cross-section adheres to the outside face of the concrete foundation, and, once the walls are framed, the top half adheres to the wall sheathingMaterial, usually plywood or oriented strand board (OSB), but sometimes wooden boards, installed on the exterior of wall studs, rafters, or roof trusses; siding or roofing installed on the sheathing—sometimes over strapping to create a rainscreen. . The combination of thicker foam, adhesive, and T-shape results in a near air-tight seal. Triple Guard is sold in 25' rolls in 4-3/4" and 5-1/2" widths, for use with 2x4 and 2x6 sill plates, respectively.
