Wood-Veneer Paneling

Wood veneer panels are made with veneers that can be laminated to a variety of cores, including plywood, particleboard, and medium density fiberboard (MDF). Products listed in GreenSpec have cores that use no-added-formaldehyde (NAF) or ultra-low emitting (ULEF) formaldehyde resins; GreenSpec also prefers products with FSC-certified wood content or recovered waste fiber.

I have 1970-80's med color/yellowed/orange oak wood veneer paneling throughout my living room. My husband and I have been arguing about this for months and we have heard such opposing views from different people (old people mostly his side). I believe that paneling is OUT! I think it is dated and needs to be painted over. He thinks it is back "in" and wants to keep the dark look. Your OPINION AND HELP? Paint over, or refinish it???
