Compact Fluorescent Lamps

Replacing standard incandescent light bulbs with compact-fluorescent lamps (CFLs) can slash electrical consumption in homes and offices where incandescent lighting is widely used. Most CFLs use roughly one-third as much electricity as incandescent bulbs with comparable output, a standard that must be met in order to earn the Energy Star label. By more efficiently converting electrical energy into light, CFLs generate less heat—which can reduce cooling loads, particularly in commercial buildings.
